Adam's Stoke stunner better than Beckham's Man Utd brilliance - Redknapp

Sky pundit Jamie Redknapp has stated his belief that Charlie Adam's stunner against Chelsea on Saturday was better than David Beckham's iconic goal against Wimbledon back in 1996.

Adam arguably scored one of the goals of the season after finding the back of the net from all of 66 yards during Stoke City's 2-1 defeat at the hands of Chelsea on Saturday.

Adam's long range strike has understandably been compared with former England star David Beckham's iconic goal from the halfway line for Manchester United against Wimbledon back in 1996 and while many are divided as to which goal is better, former Liverpool star Redknapp has stated his belief that the Scotsman's effort was the best goal from distance he has ever seen.

Redknapp stated: "We always like to group great goals together when comparing them, so if you're talking about goals from inside your own half, then Charlie Adam's was the best I've ever seen. Somebody somewhere might have scored a better one, but this was in a game against the best team in the country and one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

"Firstly, the vision to spot Thibaut Courtois off his line is excellent, but the thing I really like about this goal was the audacity Adam showed to try and pull it off. Charlie Adam (centre) lets fly from inside his own half as he scores one of the goals of his career at Chelsea.

"Players love trying shots like that in training, but it's another matter entirely to do it in a game, let alone at Stamford Bridge. The other impressive thing is the technique. A lot of players would do well to kick the ball that far with a bit of a run up or if it's rolling towards them.

"Adam had to almost dig that shot out from under his feet. It was like watching Tiger Woods in his prime hit a stinger with a two-iron. Adams cut right across it with such power to make sure it arced in. People say Courtois was in a bad position, but he was exactly where I'd expect him to be and Adam still got it over his 6ft 7in frame. It was a moment of genius and staggering to watch."
