AC Milan have sent defender Alexander Merkel back to Genoa.

Rossoblu director of sport Stefano Capozucca confirmed the decision yesterday.

"Merkel is certainly a young player who is worthy of a top club, but right now he needs to play consistently so he can further improve.

"Next season he will definitely be playing for Genoa, as he has already shown that he can put in some important performances with this jersey."
