AC Milan are moving to trump Premier League clubs for Ajax fullback Gregory van der Wiel.
The Sunday Mirror says AC Milan opened negotiations to sign the Ajax defender.
The Dutch star, who has been outstanding for Ajax this season, is regarded as one of the best full-backs in Europe.
He has also been attracting the interest of Manchester United, Chelsea and Barcelona.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has shown during the January transfer window that he is ready to splash the cash once again.
He could spark a bidding war with Milan as they look to finalise the signature of Van der Wiel.
