AC Milan are preparing a £20 million bid for Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic. The Mail on Sunday says it is being claimed in Italy that the Serbia defender has already made a secret visit to the city where he had dinner with Rossoneri legend Paolo Maldini.

That meeting is alleged to have taken place just days before United played Inter in the first leg of their European clash last month. It is being suggested that one of the other diners was a leading agent.

Vidic, 27, has arguably been United's star performer this season as they have opened up a seven-point lead at the top of the Premier League and he is widely being tipped for the player-of-the-year award.
