AC Milan chief Galliani: Tevez or Lopez by end of today

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has assured fans they'll have a new Argentine striker tonight. Galliani has made it clear that either Catania striker Maxi Lopez or Manchester City's want-away Carlos Tevez will be signed over the January transfer window.

"By tomorrow at 19.00 (18.00 UK time), we will deposit a contract with the Lega," declared Galliani.

"A clue? I'll tell you our new striker will be from Argentina and his surname ends with a 'z'...

"Maxi Lopez is a marvellous lad and I don't know what to say, as the next 24 hours are an enigma for me too.

"It is a new thing for us, locking down a player for several days, but whatever happens Maxi will be a Milan player in July. It is his dream to come and play for us."

Galliani has made it clear that Tevez is the first choice, but Manchester City are still standing firm on refusing a loan move.

"Both Tevez and Lopez care very much about Milan and want to come here at any cost, so that is pleasing. Catania were very understanding about the situation, more so than other clubs, but we'll only talk about that when this is all over."
