AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has defended their sale of Yoann Gourcuff to Bordeaux.
Galliani said: "Milan have guessed the capabilities of Gourcuff, he was bought for £2 million, we sold him for £12 million, we believed in this player.
"I spoke with him before he finally signed for Bordeaux. He said he was afraid to even be a reserve at Milan. This is the real reason.
"Next year we have the World Cup, where he is certain to play, whereas here, he knew he had a lot of competition.
"So, he and his father have taken this decision."
