Abramovich demands better from Chelsea academy

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is demanding big improvements from the club's academy.

The Daily Mail says he wants a production line of homegrown players in his matchday squad to succeed his ageing first team stars.

Established first team players, including captain John Terry and Frank Lampard - signed from West Ham in 2001 - are still regarded as the heart and soul of the club.

But with the end of their careers in sight, Abramovich fears that Chelsea will be left without a single first choice player from his £100m academy investment when they retire.
