Aberdeen's McInnes lands September manager's prize

Aberdeen's Derek McInnes has been named the Scottish Premier League Player of the Month for September.

The 42-year old guided the Dons to two wins and a draw during the ninth month of 2013 to move to fourth spot on the league table.

Aberdeen beat Partick Thistle 3-0, then-league leaders Inverness 1-0 and drew 1-1 with St Mirren to give the former Bristol City manager his first monthly award.

"It was a good month. We showed consistency of performance and got good results within that," he told Sky Sports.

"We just want to keep building on that, show that same consistency over a period of time and it'll get us where we want to be.

"Obviously Inverness came to our place in fine form, and it was always going to be a big game for us, but I think any victory you get in this league is always hard-fought.

"I've been pleased we've been in top six since start of season and we want to try to hang about there and push on if we can."
