A-League chief Gorman gives green light to Newcastle v Brisbane match

A-League boss Lyall Gorman has confirmed that Sunday afternoon's Newcastle Jets versus Brisbane Roar match will go ahead.

Rumours were circulating that the fixture may have been postponed as the Jets deal with financial issues involving matchday costs and player payments but Gorman put that to rest by saying the game will go ahead.

"I can say with 100 per cent certainty that the game will be going ahead," Gorman told the Courier-Mail.

"We're engaged in conversations with the Jets on an ongoing basis and we're committed to working with them to understand what their issues are and solving them."

Roar chief Peter McLennan was also aware that the game was definitely on and said the issues had nothing to do with his club.

"We've been told by the FFA that the game is on," McLennan said. "It's not our problem. It's between the Jets and the FFA to sort this out." Jets owner Con Constantine has admitted he is about $50,000 behind in player payments and needs around $325,000 to pay for matchday services at EnergyAustralia Stadium.
