Girona president Guardiola: A joy to finish above Barcelona; Champions League Man City issues?

Girona president Pere Guardiola says the club is well prepared for this weekend's derby against Barcelona.

Girona can strengthen their top four hopes with victory.

Asked what it would mean finishing above Barca, Guardiola told La Vanguardia: "Another joy, but we have to go step by step. This season we are setting objectives from time to time. First we achieved salvation, then the points record, Europe a few days ago and now there is the Champions League.

" But obviously if we have the possibility of second place in front of us, we will fight for that too."

Asked if being part of the City Group could be an obstacle for Girona to play in the Champions League, he said: "No.

"UEFA defines what timeshares and relationships between clubs in the same group should be and we are talking to them to meet all the requirements they ask of us. We will adapt and there will be no problems if we have to face, for example, Manchester City in same competition"

On coach Michel staying, he said: "I have total confidence, I hope he can stay with us for many more years. It will mean that we are doing things well and that the objectives set are being achieved. Our priority is that he feels happy and that he sees that we are giving him all the tools possible so that he can do the job as he has done so far.

"I think Míchel has the level to coach big clubs and we are. Girona is a big club (laughs)."
