Vancouver Whitecaps whiz Manneh closes in on US citizenship

Kekuta Manneh is setting his sights on the US national team.

The 20-year-old Gambian-born forward is less than a year away from obtaining his US citizenship and is dreaming of one day pulling on the colours of his adopted nation.

"I'm about 10 months away from getting it," Manneh said to MLSsoccer.com.

"It's scheduled to come out on Sept. 8, so I'm really excited. Since I've been here, my agent has been in contact with [US Soccer officials], so that it will build interest.

"For me, it's an honor for them to be interested in me and my service. It would be a privilege to play for them."

Manneh enjoyed a stellar individual season for the Whitecaps in 2015, scoring seven goals and providing six assists as the Canadian club progressed to the Conference semi-finals.
