Vancouver Whitecaps extend contract of ex-Newcastle, Bolton defender O'Brien

Andy O'Brien has signed a new contract with MLS club Vancouver Whitecaps it has been confirmed.

The 34-year old centre-back has penned a one-year extension with the Canadian outfit, keeping him at BC Place until the end of the 2014 MLS season.

Former Newcastle United, Bolton and Leeds United defender O'Brien, who joined the Caps in August last year, was thrilled to commit himself to the club.

"I am extremely happy to sign a contract extension," said O'Brien. "I am enjoying my time in Vancouver and being a member of Whitecaps FC."

Since arriving in Vancouver, O'Brien has made 26 appearances for the Whitecaps, including 25 starts.
