The owners of the New York Yankees baseball team are in takeover talks with Notts County.

Sky Sports says the Magpies are in talks with the owners of the American baseball team over a possible takeover deal.

The Yankees are one of the most valuable sports franchises in the world, worth an estimated £2.5bn.

The club's parent company, Yankee Global Enterprises, has been interested in buying into English football for some time, and it's thought to be attracted by Notts' status as the World's oldest football club.

It's understood that talks have been ongoing for several weeks, and that negotiations are progressing well. There's been no comment from the Yankees, or the Notts Chairman Ray Trew.

The Yankees had a past partnership agreement with Manchester United.
