Newcastle United are stepping up their interest in SPAL defender Francesco Vicari.

Sportmediaset says Vicari is on Newcastle's radar for the January market.

And they plan to post scouts to Italy in November to follow closely Vicari's progress leading up to the winter transfer window.

Vicari, 24, is a former Italy international and in his third season with SPAL.
