MISSED: Wenger could have had Kante AND Lemar at Arsenal for £12.6m

Arsene Wenger could have signed both N'Golo Kante and Thomas Lemar for a combined £12.6million, according to a French football expert.

It has been widely reported that the Arsenal manager has twice failed to sign midfielder Kante, who is closing in on his second successive Premier League title with Chelsea having guided Leicester City to glory last season.

Kante joined the Foxes from Caen for £5.6million in the summer of 2015 before moving to Stamford Bridge for a massive £32m just 12 months later, indicating how much of a bargain the normally shrewd Wenger missed out on.

But there remains egg on the face of the Gunners boss, who according to Gilles Favard, also passed up the opportunity to land Lemar who joined AS Monaco from Caen for a measly £2m.

"We all know the story," he said.

"Two years ago he [Wenger] had a deal for Thomas Lemar and N'Golo Kante for €15m [£12.6m]."

Instead, Wenger opted to spend a combined £41m on Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny in recent times and do not have an attacking midfielder impressing as regularly as Lemar.
