Kamara shoots into MLS Top 20 with Columbus Crew double

Kei Kamara made his way into the Top 20 scorers in MLS history on the weekend.

The Columbus Crew striker netted a brace in his side's 2-1 win at Philadelphia Union to take his season tally to 20 and his overall regular season league tally to 72.

The pair of goals against the Union saw former San Jose Earthquakes, Houston Dynamo, Sporting Kansas City, Norwich City and Middlesbrough forward Kamara draw level with Juan Pablo Angel in 19th position on the list.

The 31-year-old Sierra Leone international said: "When I look at it, I always try to compare myself to those guys.

"I looked up to most of those guys who scored a lot of goals – (Jeff) Cunningham, (Dwayne) De Rosario and (Landon) Donovan – so it's really good.

"Maybe not a lot of people would really know that about me; maybe they just see the other side of me and recognize the goals. But it's really good to see (myself with those players).

"Personally, I see myself as one of the top goalscorers going forward. But at the same time, it's not many goals. I still have a lot more to go to catch up to a lot of those guys."

Kamara moved past the likes of Eddie Johnson, Ronald Cerritos and Conor Casey on the all-time list which has him fourth among active players behind Chris Wondolowski, Edson Buddle and Kenny Cooper.
