Jean-Philippe Mateta is delighted to have signed permanently with Crystal Palace.

Amid interest from St Etienne, Palace turned Mateta's loan from Mainz into a permanent deal last month.

The striker told But Football Club: "My ambition is to help the team win matches but also to score because I'm a goalscorer. My job is to score and kick in the corner flags (his signature after every goal).

"I would like to thank the coach (Patrick Vieira), who believed in me. Staying on the bench, watching the team and doing nothing, not playing, it was very difficult. I worked hard. I knew that the day the coach gave me my chance, I would take it, I would score, we would win and I would not drop out of the eleven.
