Japan Football Association president Kuniya Daini has revealed that the country is ready to host the World Cup in case Qatar's rights are stripped by FIFA.
The Arab nation was granted the hosting rights for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in December 2010 but complications have arisen regarding the climate of the proposed June/July tournament as well as corruption during the bidding process and the alleged poor treatment of workers.
FIFA's ethics committee is investigating how the Qataris managed to land the World Cup which has prompted Japan to come forward with their case to host if the sport's governing body decides to take it away from the Middle East.
"If FIFA look for an alternative country, we already have the stadiums that would meet the criteria to host it," Daini told AFP.
"We have the (Tokyo) Olympics in 2020. If there is a chance, we'd like to do it, although I don't know how likely that would be."
