Scotland will be without captain Darren Fletcher for their vital Euro2012 qualifiers on Saturday against Liechtenstein.
The Scots take on Group I's bottom-placed team in Vaduz before tackling World Champions Spain in Alicante in what could prove to be must-win matches but will have to do it without Manchester United midfielder Fletcher.
The 27-year old has been struck down with tonsillitis and the Scottish Football Association were hoping he would make it for the double header but a statement today confirmed he has been withdrawn from Craig Levein's squad at least for the first fixture.
"Darren Fletcher will not travel to Liechtenstein due to tonsillitis but remains in contention for Spain and his progress will continue to be assessed by medical staff," read the statement.
