Holger Osieck installed as new Socceroos coach

Football Federation Australia has announced that German Holger Osieck will replace Pim Verbeek as the Australian national team coach. The former Germany World Cup-winning assistant has signed a deal to keep him in the job until after the 2014 World Cup.

Osieck has also coached German club VfL Bochum, Turkey's Fenerbahce and Kocaelispor, Japan's Urawa Reds, the Canadian national team and has also been involved with FIFA's technical department in more recent years.

The 61-year old said he was excited to be entering into this partnership with FFA and is looking forward to helping the future of Australian football.

"I am excited about working with the Qantas Socceroos and building on the team's impressive results in Asia and around the world," Osieck said.

"Taking over at a stage of natural transition as we start our preparations for 2014 is an ideal opportunity to influence the future direction of the young players and coaches from Australia."
