Former Premier League defender Richard Rufus is set to spend the next several years behind bars.
The 48-year-old, who played 288 times for Charlton Athletic, has been found guilty of running a trading scam.
He was found guilty at Southwark Crown Court of several charges, including “fraud, money laundering and carrying out a regulated activity without authorisation."
Many ex-Premier League footballers, including Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand, are said to have invested in his Ponzi scheme.
Rufus is sentenced to a seven-and-a-half year jail sentence for his crimes.
