Evra: Man Utd fans deserved Olympiakos night

Manchester United fullback Patrice Evra hailed the attitude of the fans after their Champions League win over Olympiakos.

Evra spoke passionately on Tuesday at UEFA's pre-match press conference about the need to perform well against Olympiacos and do justice to the club's proud traditions.

He invoked similar sentiments following the Reds' 3-0 win on Wednesday and United's progression to the competition's last eight.

"It was really important to show the love for this shirt, the respect for this shirt," he said.

"That's why I think we won - the spirit. Maybe some people will say I'm too old-school but I know when you have the Manchester United spirit you can make a difference and nothing is impossible.

"When you lose against a rival like Liverpool 3-0 at home and the fans still sing for you - they never booed - it's amazing.

"When I went home on Sunday I was so sad, so hurt inside. I couldn't wait for the [Olympiacos] game to give something back.

"We've had a tough season and the supporters have been fantastic. I say thank you to all the Manchester United fans. For me, they are the best in the world."
