Luke Wilkshire insists he does not feel his place in the Australian national team is guaranteed.
The 32-year old Dynamo Moscow defender, who has played 79 times for the Socceroos, was overlooked for his country's last match - a 1-0 win over Costa Rica in November.
New boss Ange Postecoglou selected his former Brisbane Roar pupil Ivan Franjic at right-back for that particular clash which has Wilkshire's spot in doubt for Wednesday's (Thursday morning AEDT) meeting with Ecuador.
Ahead of the friendly at The Den in London, national team regular Wilkshire said that he will be fighting for a spot in the starting line-up as well as for a berth in the 23-man World Cup squad - just like everybody else in the Socceroos setup will be doing.
"Honestly, I don't feel I have anything special to prove," he told SBS.
"Every player in every game is trying to show something extra. That's normal and I am no different.
"You are under the spotlight in every game you play and Wednesday will be the same."
A member of the 2006 and 2010 World Cup rosters, Wilkshire added: "There's always competition for places, all across the squad.
"I am not unique - we are all there fighting for a place and that's healthy for the team."
