Celta Vigo coach Benitez on Alaves draw: Our fans deserve better

Celta Vigo coach Rafa Benitez says the fans deserve better after yesterday's 1-1 draw with Alaves.

Celta had the lead in the 35th minute via an own goal before Samu Omorodion found an Alaves equaliser on 73 minutes.

Benitez later said: "We have had other games in which we deserved to win and in this match we have to save it for the fans, in such a difficult situation. I'm not saying this to be trivial.

"It's a fact that we weren't good.

"It leaves me sad because for us it was very important to do well and win in front of our fans. When we went 1-0, in an unexpected way, we have not been able to fight, to win all the tackles and have control."

Luca de la Torre was sent off for Celta five minutes before Alaves struck.

Benitez said: "The expulsion for me is once again questionable and you end up almost happy because you get a point."

"In the games in which we have to take the initiative, except against Mallorca, it is more difficult for us and we have to continue working on it. We have to improve a lot in game management and control.

"It's a wake-up call so we don't fall asleep."
