Bournemouth boss Iraola blasts Newcastle penalty after draw

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola was furious with the penalty conceded after their 2-2 draw against Newcastle.

Anthony Gordon converted after VAR had ruled in Newcastle's favour on a tug of Fabian Schar's shirt.

Iraola later said: "[The officials] tried to explain what is not explainable. It was impossible. They tried but I am probably not smart enough to understand what they are saying.

"It is a soft, soft penalty but if there is no offside, OK I can understand. Hundreds of times at set pieces players are grabbing each other and nothing is given - but it happens to us.

"Maybe it is a foul but it is offside. The player is in an offside position and affects the play because he was running to get the ball. My player tries to pull him because he has lost the position because he was in an offside position.

"He profits from his offside position, there is a foul and they tried to explain it. I also think the VAR hasn't shown the referee the camera angle that shows he is offside or he would have made the correct decision.

"It has taken then 10 minutes to decide and I am not smart enough to understand the decision.

"When you take 10 minutes, you at least expect them to reach the right decision. I have never seen something like this."

On the performance, he added: "My frustration is because we played a very, very good game. The only thing we will talk about in the next days is that decision.

"We deserved to win the game."
